Tires Tires. If you can increase traction you increase performance. Unless your goal is to create a tire smoking burnout machine, adding power and reducing weight is useless without the traction needed to effectively put it to the ground.
Choosing new tires for your GTI The stock mk7 GTI came from the factory with a set of decent all-season tires and a summer-only tire option giving new GTI owners quite a bit more grip from the get go.
While the stock summer option is a great one, as in all things GTI tuning, there are better options to consider. Wheels While often seen solely as a cosmetic modification for your GTI, the right set of wheels can actually give you the best of both form and function. If you can reduce the unsprung weight of your GTI you will definitely gain performance due to the reduction in rotational mass.
Wheel Weight To help give you a better picture, the stock wheels found your Mk6 GTI weight without tires : Factory "Detroit" style wheels: 29 pounds each Factory "Denver" style wheels: 24 pounds each The new Mk7 GTI stock wheels are pretty similar without tires Factory "Austin" style wheels: 25 pounds each Factory "Nogaro" style wheels: 24 pounds each Unfortunately, for most weight seems to be an afterthought when shopping for new wheels.
Many just go with what looks good on their GTI, not considering that they may actually be bolting up heavier wheels, reducing performance in the process. Now, if you were to replace your stock wheels while keeping form AND function in mind, you will be in the money when it comes to performance gained. Famed wheel manufacturer Rays Engineering has been quoted to say that for every 1kg 2.
So, say you bought a set of one of the wheels listed above for your Mk6 GTI replacing your stock Detroit wheels. I've had my MKv for about four years now, tuned all of them and never had a problem even when they knew the car was tuned with multiple dealerships. As for breakdowns,,, well you can blow stuff up stock as well if your driving it hard that's just part of going fast. BTW if the dealer see's facts to you driving it hard when you do have a breakdown your not covered by warranty stock or not Some do , some don't I've been on both sides of that.

Increasing the power output of the car will decrease the life of the engine, however, there have been very very few engine failures that have been proven to be caused by to the chip itself.
Sure, small stuff like the dv or pcv failure occur, but these have also been known to fail on stock cars as well. Also, driving styles will affect the reliability as well. Bottom line is, there are hundreds, probably thousands of people with chips with no major problems at all. A chip can be installed and driven hard for k miles without engine issues.
Warranty on the Car Ahh…the famous question…will the chip void the warranty? The bottom line is no modification will outright void the warranty, however, if the dealer proves that the modification directly caused failure of a stock component, then they most likely will not honor warranty in that scenario.
