Should i watch star trek the animated series

And James T. Kirk's middle name, Tiberius, comes to us from the animated series. And the episide The Practical Joker represented in the image above introduced the first holodeck into Star Trek! What's more, the animated series featured great sequels to classic Trek episodes, often featuring the original guest actors returning. Harry Mudd shows up again, the crew returns to the pleasure planet from Shore Leave , and there's even the return of Klingon Commander Kor, the first Klingon ever on Star Trek.

When scifi writer Larry Niven agreed to pen an episode The Slaver's Weapon , he included elements from his Known Space literary scifi universe, most well known from his Man-Kzin Wars and Ringworld books. While there's no way the events of that series line up with the history of Star Trek , the creators of Star Trek: Enterprise were going to include the Kzinti if the show had reached a fifth season.

The original cast is back. It's not for kids. It has fewer limitations than the original series. It's canon. Ditto for the cat-like baddies, the Kzinti, who make their one-and-only appearance in Trek canon in this episode.

Yes, it turns out, it was very cool. Remember when those bullies picked on young Spock in the J. Abrams reboot? Yep, that scene happened here first. Written by the legendary D. Watch it, enjoy it, feel uncomfortable about finding M'Ress hot, then move on with your life. DalekJim , Jun 12, Joined: Feb 20, Location: Ward Fowler's gofer.

It's incredibly fun. For me, a lot of the charm is driven by nostalgia I remember as a kid thinking that TAS was the far superior version of the kinda-boring live-action show , but there are actually some good stories, and it's fun to see a different vision for Trek.

Shatnertage , Jun 12, It's definitely worthwhile if you're a fan of the female crew, for it gives Uhura and Chapel more to do than they generally got in TOS -- Uhura even takes the conn once or twice it's ambiguous the second time. Plus, yes, they do introduce M'Ress as a third recurring crewwoman, but she does the same job as Uhura so it kind of cancels out.

TAS also introduced the first female security guards in Trek history. If you plan on rewatching everything again, by all means don't bother and just include it next time.

The episode Yesteryear is a classic and among my personal top 10 all-time. CaptPapa , Jun 12, Personally, I adore it. Koloth and Cyrano Jones cross paths with the crew again, this time with even more tribble shenanigans. The Infinite Vulcan Episode 7 — A scientist from the Eugenics Wars and a species of hyperintelligent plants clone Spock, believing him to be the perfect template for a master species.

Yes, this is the one with Lorge Spock. But when Nurse Chapel is given one of the crystals, her feelings for Spock overwhelm her.
